  • Extreme mania characterized by increased energy, elevated mood, talkativeness, excessive spending, increased mental alertness, and difficulty concentrating.
  • Extreme depression including  loss of interest, decreased energy, feeling of worthlessness, suicidal thoughts, loss of appetite or overeating, anxiety, irritable mood, etc.

These symptoms usually last for days, weeks, and up to months, and the mood changes are noted to be really intense that they actually interfere with the activities of daily living.  The causes for the occurrence of the condition are generally unknown, but familial history is linked to it.  This is a serious medical condition which is why proper treatment should be given to a person suffering from it. Apparently, there is no specific method yet on how to cure bipolar disorder, but medical professionals believe that the following interventions can greatly help the sufferer to get back to normal. Here are some ways on how to cure bipolar disorder.

How to Treat Bipolar Disorder

Generally, manic depression is a life-long condition.  Relapse is actually high once it’s left without treatment.  The basic ways on how treat it are:

  • Therapy – Psychotherapy is known to be an essential aid to improve the illness. Talk therapy can also help patients deal with their symptoms.  This therapy also involves parents with the aim of educating them regarding what the patient is suffering.
  • Medication – medication treatment is focused on reducing symptoms as well as managing the duration of the illness. Lithium is the most commonly used drug in to stabilize mood.  Antidepressants, on the other hand, are prescribed to treat depression episodes.
