Foods to not eat During PregnancyAs a pregnant woman, you want to ensure that the baby you’re expecting will turn out really healthy.  Of course, to be able to do this, you need to do your part as well.  You already know what some of the foods are needed to include in your diet, but what about those not to eat foods during pregnancy that can pose a great threat to you and to your precious one?  To give you an idea, here are some them.

Foods to Avoid During Pregnancy

  • Avoid raw meat in your meals because undercooked meat increases the risk of salmonella and E.coli which may bring harm to your and your baby.
  • Stop eating seafood with mercury.  Mercury when consumed during gestational period can bring about abnormalities on the newborn. Included in the seafood list with high mercury are tuna, mackerel, shark, and swordfish.
  • Raw eggs are also among the dishes and foods to not eat during pregnancy.  These may be exposed to salmonella.  See to it that the egg recipes included in your meals are pasteurized to prevent the risk.
  • Milk when unpasteurized has an increased risk of carrying the bacteria “listeria”.  This is capable of crossing the placenta which can be transferred to your baby can lead to other frightening diseases.
  • Unwashed vegetables and fruits.  Although they are generally essential for the body, you need to make sure that they’ve been washed before consuming them or you’ll suffer from toxoplasmosis.
  • Never include junk foods or non-nutritious foods in your snacks.  Food cravings are fine, but you still have to see to it that what you take is still nutritious.
  • What not to drink during this period? I’m pretty sure you know the answer – alcohol.  Intake of alcohol during the period of gestation has been noted to cause a couple of abnormalities on the baby.  If you wouldn’t want this to happen, refrain from drinking this for the time being.  Moreover, caffeine should also be reduced as it’s noted to bring about diabetes in your child.

Be careful with your food choices to eliminate any risk of malformation on your baby. Have a healthy pregnancy!
