Fruit Salad Filipino Style

Holidays and different celebrations in the Philippine will not be complete without an outstanding dessert called fruit salad. Some of you may ask what made Filipino fruit salad outstanding. Well, it’s not just because of fruits being used in there but because of the presence of “buko”. Sometimes, instead of calling fruit salad, Filipinos end up calling it buko salad.

Buko is a young coconut and mainly used as a main ingredient in different Filipino desserts and dishes. You may be wondering now about how to make a Filipino fruit salad and what are the ingredients does it need to make it called perfect. Okay, I don’t want to put a lot of suspense in this article, so let’s all learn how to make fruit salad- Filipino style.

FRUIT SALAD – FILIPINO STYLE

Ingredients and things you need to prepare:

  • 1 kilo of shredded coconut ( buko)
  • 500 grams of regular fruit cocktail or canned mix fruits, drained from syrup
  • 250 grams of nata de coco, (transparent or clear ones)
  • 2 cans of condensed milk
  • 2 cans of all purpose cream
  • 100 grams of cheddar cheese. Cubed
  • 50 grams of raisins

Instructions in Making Filipino Fruit Salad

  • Drain buko, fruit salad and nata de coco using a strainer for few minutes until they are syrup free. You can drain them all at once to save time and energy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, put the drained ingredients. Pour the condensed milk and all purpose cream. Add cheese and raisins. Mix and blend the ingredients well.
  • Transfer the mixed fruits to a food storage container. Place them inside the fridge and chill for an hour.
  • Serve and enjoy!

That is the Filipino way of making this dessert. It is so easy and really simple to prepare. You can add some fresh fruits in it or even make your own version of fruit salad according to your family’s favorite fruits with the same instructions.
