sinusitis home remediesSinusitis refers to the inflammation of the sinus passages.  One of its causes is infection.  Viral or bacterial infections can cause acute sinusitis.  A person who has cold and flu also experiences sinusitis which is caused by viral infection.  On the other hand, allergies can also lead in experiencing this condition.  Stuffiness and nasal congestion is among its symptoms and when it doesn’t allow the sinuses to drain properly, sinus infection will develop as the bacteria are trapped inside the sinuses, thus leading to complications like postnasal drip and bacterial sinusitis.

Some of the sinuses lie closely to the brain; therefore the condition is usually accompanied with severe type of headache. The sinus headache gives the sufferer a big pain and a feeling of inconveniency. Sinusitis may also be followed by symptoms of influenza, and common cold, loss of appetite, dizziness, and loss of smell.

Sinusitis comes in two types – acute and chronic. Chronic sinusitis is considered serious which is why if a person has this, it is recommended to have it checked out by a doctor to further confirm the diagnosis and arrange for treatment on how to cure it.  As for acute sinusitis, you don’t have to live with it for days as there are home remedies for sinusitis.  These are all natural remedies aimed to head off the problem.

Home Remedies for Sinusitis

  • Inhale steam twice daily to open nasal passage to drain sinuses and mucus will flow easily.
  • Humidifier may also be a great help if you’re experiencing difficulty in breathing.
  • Increase fluid intake as well as fruit juices.
  • Eat a healthy and well – balanced diet especially food rich in Vitamin C. Include raw onion and garlic in your diet as they can aid on how to treat sinusitis.  Do not eat sweets or any kind of milk products as it can aggravate congestion.
  • You can take ginger or cinnamon tea to provide relief from nasal congestion.
  • Mango does well because of the fruits heavy concentration of Vitamin A which can be helpful in treating sinus attacks.
  • Fenugreek seeds are also helpful on how to cure the condition.  Make a mixture out of fenugreek seeds and water. Boil the water until it reduces to half.  Drain the mixture and take it atleast 2-3 times daily.
  • Cumin seeds are also among the best home remedies for sinusitis.  One should take a teaspoon of cumin, tie it in thin cotton, and inhale its fragrance.
  • Elumea leaves can also be very helpful.  Crush five leaves of it and heat directly over the fire.  Apply the leaves directly on the forehead to provide relief from frontal sinusitis or on the cheeks for maxillary sinusitis.  Do this twice daily.
  • Avoid pollutants that can cause allergies as well. Quit smoking if you are.

Another effective home remedy for sinusitis is to chew a bit of honey comb for at least 15 minutes 6 times daily.
