How to Treat Post Nasal DripPost nasal drip occurs when there is excessive production of mucus at the back of the nose, in the throat, and sinuses.  The condition is characterized by symptoms such as nasal congestion, cough, sore throat, bad breath, and difficulty breathing. This is actually due to a lot of causes including – sinusitis, chronic rhinitis, colds, allergies, and pollutants.  Treatment for post nasal drip ranges from the use of antibiotics and antihistamines.  Moreover, home remedies may also be done on to treat post nasal drip.  Here are some of them:

How to Cure Post Nasal Drip

  1. Mix a half teaspoon of salt with a glass of warm water.  Gargle the saltwater at regular intervals to allow drainage from the condition.
  2. Drink plenty of fluids especially fruit juices or even hot beverages to get rid of the mucus from the throat.
  3. Baking soda is another way on how to cure the problem.  Do so by adding a small amount of it plus a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Use a nasal syringe and squirt the mixture to your nose.  Blow your nose afterwards, but be careful not to blow too hard.
  4. Avoid consumption of dairy products for the mean time as they can aggravate excessive mucus production more.
  5. You can also make use of a humidifier thus keeping the nasal passages moist.
  6. Medicines such as decongestants can also provide a big help in alleviating the condition.  Nasal sprays can also be used; however it shouldn’t be used for a long time as it can damage your nasal passages. Others suggest even the use of cough medicine as they say it can cause thinning of the mucus.  If the condition is caused by allergens, then antihistamines should be taken.
  7. Eliminate any allergens which can contribute to the condition more.

Those are some of the natural remedies you can follow on how to treat post nasal drip. The condition is something which isn’t too serious, however if it has become chronic and none of the natural treatment seems to alleviate the symptoms, it would be better to consult your doctor about it.
