  • Familial history
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Eye injury
  • Smoking
  • Surgery from another eye disorder
  • Part of ageing process

Oftentimes, cloudy vision as well as other symptoms like halos around lights, double vision, and difficulty seeing in dim light, and sensitivity to glare may manifest at the start of 60 years old. Cataract surgery is done at he hospital, but is considered as outpatient basis. There are three types of operation that may be performed on the patient such as:

  • Intracapsular Cataract Surgery
  • Extracapsular Cataract Surgery
  • Phacoemulsification

Lasik is also considered another method of extraction of the cataract. The type of surgery depends on how advanced the cataract is. As for the cost, the price of cataract removal ranges from $3000 – 3500. It generally differs depending on the lens implanted on your eyes like Toric lens which corrects astigmatism as well as the hospital where you are going to have it done.

Recovery Post-Cataract Surgery

The operation usually lasts for 35 minutes to an hour. And after the operation, patients recover easily by getting their vision back almost immediately.  They may have to wear glasses at some time. Patients may perform their normal routine after one to seven days.

Surgery complication is very rare. But if there ever is, they are only noted to be short term such as bruising, bleeding, glaucoma, and eye infection. However, if these symptoms do not seem to disappear in 24 hours, make sure that you seek the help of your doctor immediately.
