Pinot Noir – pronounced as ‘pee-no-nwaah’ is basically a red grape that is used to produce red wines. Taken from two French words, “black” and “pine”, it actually refers to the clusters that are formed tightly by the grapes when on vine.  These red wine grapes are, in fact, difficult to grow and rarely blended.

Apparently, this type of  wine can be manufactured at any part of the world. However, it is more popular in places with cooler climates including the north of France.  The Pinot Noir is considered difficult to grow, but the end results are always worth it as the wine is considered one of the finest wines in the world.

Most countries around the world including – the US, Germany, Italy, and Australia make fine bottles of Pinot Noir wine. Still, some people will tell you that the best Pinot Noir come from Burgundy, France.

The Pinot Noir grapes are smaller than the grapes usually used for Cabernet Sauvignon.  When making Pinot Noir wine, it is considered that the smaller the grape, the greater the intensity of the flavor. The wine’s flavor generally increases as it matures.

A lot of flavors are associated with the this wine that is why it’s better to learn them to know what type of wine is Pinot Noir.  They say that Black Cherry is the leading flavor, with notes of a little something of vanilla, raspberry, plum, and licorice. Good bottles of Pinot Noir carry a balance between tannins and acid flavors with an aftertaste of black cherry.

The Pinot Noir is yet a popular choice among people who enjoy rich wine tastes and flavors. Also, the Pinot Noir makes an excellent food-wine pairing with dishes including – chicken, grilled salmon, lamb, pasta with a tomato-based soup, and light beef as well as dishes with creamy sauces like mushroom soup and roast beef. The wine should be served at around 61 degrees Fahrenheit.
