The idea of boosting your immune system is in fact a great idea. Researchers have continuously looked for ways on how to speed up weak immune system.  Though the effects of diet, age, genetics, and exercise aren’t so clear on how they affect one’s immune system, it is still better to start with healthy-living strategies to enhance the immune function naturally.  With that said, we’ll give you lists of foods that boost your immune system.   • Vitamin C. Foods that contain Vitamin C ranks as the most needed immune boosters.  The vitamin is widely available naturally in a lot of fruits and vegetables.  Vitamin C is said to increase of the production of white blood cells and generation of antibodies in your lymphatic system which is closely related in playing an important part in your immune system.  Moreover, people who consume a high amount of Vitamin C have lower rates of digestive tract and endocrine diseases. Broccoli, berries, cauliflowers, peppers, tomatoes, orange, papaya, etc are some of the good sources of Vitamin C.
  • Carotenoids.  Like Vitamin C, Beta Carotene also increases the number of white blood cells which fight off infection.  Moreover, it contains antioxidant properties which get rid of free radicals known to speed up aging. Mangoes, carrots, asparagus, tangerines, pumpkins, watermelon, peaches, etc are some of the foods rich in carotenoids and beta carotene.
  • Vitamin E.  This vitamin is known to possess antioxidant properties along with boosting the immune system by enhancing the production of immune cells that produce antibodies to kill off bacteria.  This may be available in supplements as well as diet rich in seeds, grains, and vegetable oils.
  • Zinc.  This mineral enhances the function of helper T cells which aid in fighting off bacteria aggressively.  Supplements with zinc are also noted to play a part in reduction of the growth of cancer.  Zinc should be taken in moderation though as too much zinc can be toxic to the body. Some sources of this mineral include seafood and lean meats.
  • Selenium. Good sources include tuna, poultry and beef, lobsters, oysters, grain products like oats and barley, and Brazil nuts.
  • Garlic.  This contains ingredient called allicin which is known to fight infection and bacteria. Garlic also lowers incidences of stomach cancers.
  • To have a healthy immune system, add mushrooms to your diet.
  • In children, you can look for recipes on how to make drinks containing essential ingredients to strengthen their immune system.
